Somatic Illumination

Why coming home to the Body helps healing and why being Trauma Informed is an essential & integrative part and in Reclaiming Your Wholeness

Somatic Illumination is a one-to-one somatic approach for individuals experiencing long-term illness, emotional overwhelm, trauma responses, or chronic stress and pain. Rooted in nervous system healing, trauma-informed care, and somatic movement, this work supports you in returning home to your body.

This integrative process blends science-backed somatic tools with intuitive, embodied presence. Each session is uniquely designed to help you gently release stored tension, access emotional resilience, and feel more regulated in your day-to-day life.

Together, we work with the body — not against it — to uncover the deeper stories, sensations, and wisdom beneath the surface.

Why It’s Essential to Be Trauma-Informed

Being trauma-informed means understanding that people’s behaviours, reactions, and challenges are often rooted in nervous system adaptations rather than flaws or resistance. Trauma-informed practice recognises:

  • The body’s role in survival responses

  • The importance of pacing and safety

  • The impact of overwhelm on healing

  • How easily we can retraumatise without meaning to

  • That healing requires capacity, not force

Without trauma-informed awareness, practitioners—and even well-intentioned healing modalities—can accidentally push people into dysregulation rather than healing.

Examples I come across regularly-

1. Overshooting the Nervous System’s Capacity

I’ve seen clients—and experienced myself—situations where we try too much, too fast either ourselves or by being pushed.

For example: someone enters a somatic or breathwork session feeling hopeful, but the facilitator pushes intensity before the body is ready.

Instead of regulating, the person

  • dissociates

  • blanks out

  • spirals into anxiety later

  • or feels like they “failed”

A trauma-informed approach understands capacity first.

We build safety → then titration → then expression.

This prevents overwhelm and makes the healing sustainable.

2. Tremors ≠ Always Release — Sometimes They’re Trauma Activation

Tremors, shaking, heat, or strong somatic surges can be part of healing—but they can also be signs of the body re-experiencing unprocessed trauma.

A trauma-informed practitioner knows how to slow things down, ground the person, orient them, help them stay within their window of tolerance, and avoid retraumatisation.

Without that awareness, clients can leave sessions feeling destabilised or confused, thinking something “went wrong,” when really their body needed gentleness, not intensity.

3. “Not Built Emotional Capacity Yet”

Many people come to therapy or spiritual work wanting transformation, but they haven’t yet built the emotional and somatic capacity to feel the emotions they’ve avoided for years.

This is where trauma-informed care shines.

Instead of forcing catharsis or deep story exploration, we focus on:

  • capacity-building

  • co-regulation

  • nervous system strengthening

  • micro-moments of safety

  • pacing emotional contact

This creates healing that is gentle, sustainable, and integrated.

Where This Matters Most-

1. Spiritual spaces

Spiritual bypassing, big openings, breathwork, meditation, shadow work — all of these can accidentally overwhelm trauma survivors if not grounded in nervous system awareness.

A trauma-informed lens protects people from spiritual harm.

2. Talk therapy

Talk therapy without somatic awareness can re-activate trauma loops by re-telling stories without resolving the embodied charge.

Integrating somatics creates safety, grounding, and real resolution.

3. Ongoing support & integration

Trauma work isn’t a one-off event.

It’s a deep, layered process that requires ongoing support, consistent pacing, and tools to help people stay regulated between sessions.

Being trauma-informed means holding people with care, responsibility, and respect for the nervous system’s natural rhythm.

This Work May Support You If You Are-

• Navigating chronic illness, fatigue, or pain

• Feeling dysregulated, anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed

• Recovering from trauma or burnout

• Disconnected from your body or your inner sense of self

• Ready for a gentler, embodied path to healing

No prior experience is needed. You simply need a willingness to slow down, get curious, and explore what’s ready to shift.

Each session may include-

  • Somatic movement and nervous system regulation techniques

• Breathwork and grounding tools

• Guided inquiry and emotional processing

• Trauma-sensitive body awareness

• Support to identify and gently unwind patterns of tension, shutdown, or overwhelm

Every session is responsive to your unique needs and held with care, collaboration, and deep respect for your process.

What my clients say-

I had a series of 1:1 sessions with Kelly as well as attending her Saturday class. Her deep insight into mind-body connection and personalized approach have greatly enhanced my practice and overall well-being. Highly recommend for anyone who needs to reconnect with their own body.” Corinne

  • Thank you so much for helping me get in touch with my body and heart. I felt for long time being in defensive default mode not knowing that I was still carrying my childhood traumas added to the daily stressors from work , family and relationship. Throughout our 6 sessions I managed to have more compassion and understanding to my feeling , acknowledging anger , frustration or grieve as normal feeling, observing these without judgement. and noticing where these are actually showing in my body. We could release a lot of these , the most important ones in my opinion. I continue my daily exercises that you kindly recorded for me. Thank you so very much for being such a wonderful person. • Kelly skilfully provided me with a grounding and containing space to engage in somatic therapy. I am a psychologist and therefore work primarily using a ‘talking therapy’ framework. Kelly’s work differs from this framework and instead she encouraged me to identify how an emotion was showing up in my body. This meant that I had to let go of my tendency to overthink and analyse which was hard at first but became easier with Kelly’s guidance. The approach has been fundamental in the positive changes/shifts that I have witnessed following my time with Kelly. Above all, she is a warm and an extremely knowledgeable trauma informed practitioner. I highly recommend her, and I feel grateful to have worked alongside her. Sara 1:1

  • I had somatic therapy sessions with Kelly over the span of a few months and the results were remarkable! Kelly uses a combination of somatic inquiry and and a specific way of processing emotions which gently bring long-held trauma and repressed feelings to the surface; once they are seen for what they truly are they can be released, and what a difference this makes to the daily experience of life! Not only do I feel better but I'm also able to use this method by myself now so I can process unwanted emotions whenever they arise. Kelly was amazing: very warm and caring but also very insightful, with an uncanny instinct for my blind spots and unconscious defense mechanisms. Definitely someone you want by your side on the roller-coaster adventure of self-improvement and discovery! Oana - 1:1

  • My sessions with Kelly have been absolutely brilliant. I’ve got in touch with some deep rooted emotional difficulties that I was not able to feel or be present to, with talking therapy. Not only did these things arise but I was finally able to be present and process them. Some of these traumas have been hiding away and were so deep rooted. I feel so free now that they have been seen. I am so grateful that kelly is offering this work. It’s really worked so well for me, Lexi,
